Está todo listo para la entrega del Game of the Year (GOTY), el galardón al juego del año que se entrega durante la gala de los The Game Awards 2020, conocido como los premios Óscar de los videojuegos, donde se reconoce y se premia a las mejores entregas anuales dirigidas a los gamers.

Los Game Awards 2020 se celebrarán el próximo 10 de diciembre, y debido a la pandemia de Covid-19 el evento no se llevará a cabo de manera presencial como en ediciones pasadas, en cambio, será presentado virtualmente por Geoff Keighley, veterano periodista de videojuegos y quien trabajó en el predecesor de estos premios, los Spike Video Game Awards, durante más de diez años.

Decenas de medios especializados de todo el mundo son parte de un jurado internacional que elige a los nominados de las distintas categorías y vota por el juego ganador.

Este evento anual también causa gran expectativa por los anuncios sobre futuros títulos y análisis en profundidad de los previamente anunciados.

The Last of Us Parte II y Hades son los grandes favoritos para este año y destaca la ausencia: Half-Life: Alyx como nominado a Mejor juego del año (GOTY).

Los Game Awards cuentan a un comité asesor que incluye a representantes de los fabricantes de hardware como Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo y AMD , y los editores de software Electronic Arts, Activision, Rockstar Games, Ubisoft, Valve y Warner Bros., Interactive Entertainment, quienes eligen a los medios especializados que serán los jurados.
